Ireland's World Cup dream is all but over after a crushing home defeat at the hands of a rampaging Sweden at the Aviva Stadium on Friday night.

Not even a victory in Austria on Tuesday night will be good enough to convince the Irish fans that Giovanni Trapattoni can get them to Brazil next summer.

And pundit Eamon Dunphy led the calls for Trapattoni to go now after the Swedes gained the upperhand in the race to make the play-off behind Germany, 3-0 winners on the night at home to Austria.

Dunphy said on RTE: "This coach has come to the end of the line. I don't think you set your team up to play like that. I feel sorry for the players."

Robbie Keane brought his MLS form into the game when his determination earned him the home side a 21st minute opener.

But Sweden never buckled after relentless Irish pressure in the opening period.

The visitors, inspired by the brilliant Ibrahimovic, levelled through Elmander in the 33rd minute.

And the lead goal they deserved duly arrived in the 57th minute by Andreas Svennson.
