Celtic manager Tony Mowbray has ruled out a swoop for players from West Bromwich Albion until he has assessed his squad.

Mowbray was unveiled as Gordon Strachan’s successor on Wednesday and despite being linked with several of his former stars such as Paul Robinson, Marc-Antoine Fortune and Borja Valero, he says he will not rush back to The Hawthorns for signings.

“I haven’t seen the players here yet and I will make my real assessments on the training ground,” he said in The Express and Star.

“I like all the players at Albion, because I took most of them there. Whether they are in the team or out of it, they are generally good people.

“I need to assess now what this club needs. A lot of managers do go back to their old clubs for players because they know them, but whether I do that or not we will wait and see.

“I do know it’s never easy to get players and if West Brom have players they don’t want to lose, I am pretty sure they won’t be going anywhere.”
