CBS has announced plans to televise the game between Notre Dame and Navy that is being played in Dublin’s Aviva Stadium this coming September.

The September 1st showdown will see one of the longest running rivalries in American football played out on Irish soil in Dublin’s state of the art, recently renovated, stadium.

The opening season game is not the first time the fighting Irish will play in Ireland. In 1996, Navy fell 54-27 at Dublin’s Croke Park .

Kickoff is set for 2:00 pm local Dublin time, and 9am here in the east coast of the U.S.

“We fully realize just how important this game is in the U.S. sporting calendar and we are looking forward to hosting what will undoubtedly be a fantastic event,” Aviva Stadium Director, Martin Murphy said.

“The selection of Aviva Stadium for this game is a huge endorsement of the stadium and it is a terrific boost for Irish tourism as I have no doubt the teams’ fans will travel in great numbers.  We are confident they will have a memorable time in Ireland.”

Naval Academy Athletic Director, Chet Gladchuk, told the Irish American Football Association: “We are delighted to bring this game to Ireland and we plan to bring the full show with us to make the most of this special occasion.”

Gladchuk added, “the response from the US and corporate markets have been phenomenal and we hope the Irish will also come out in force to fill the Aviva Stadium for this great spectacle.”

Tickets for the game went on sale to the general public on Tuesday 20th March and sold out within a very short time. The stadium has a seating capacity of 50,000.
