Tennis champion Caroline Wozniacki has said Irish golf champ Rory McIlroy’s attitude is inspiring. The Northern Ireland golfer’s girlfriend shared in his victory at the DP World Tour Championship at the presentation ceremony, alongside his mother Rosie and father Gerry.
Speaking in Dubai Wozniacki told the Irish Independent “It's great to see him doing so well and never giving up."
She said McIlroy (23) has “matured a lot over the last year or two" into a great champion
“It's been amazing to see him become such a great player. He'll keep going for a long time.”
Wozniacki (22), the former world number one Danish tennis player, was photographed with her boyfriend, alongside his two giant trophies but modestly added “I have not won anything today.”
McIlroy published thanked Wozniacki for her support. He said “I seem to win or do very well in any tournaments Caroline attends, so maybe I can persuade her to come to a few more.”
However her busy schedule doesn’t allow her to get to as many tournaments as she would like. She said “If I didn't have a job myself, I might have come out a few more weeks.
“It's difficult but we're making it work and it's working well.”
Now that McIlroy’s season is over he’ll be taking on the role of spectator travelling to Aspen, Colorado and Sao Paulo, Brazil, to watch his girl play tennis. He’ll then head home to Ireland for Christmas before heading to Brisbane to watch the Australian Open in January.
On January 6 McIlroy will return to Dubai to square up to Tiger Woods for the Abu Dhabi Championship.
