Sherman Oaks (California) Notre Dame High are set to play their first game of the season in 2012 at the Emerald Isle Classic in Dublin.
 
The team will be playing during part of the hoopla surrounding the Notre Dame Fighting Irish play off again Navy at the Aviva Stadium, in Lansdown Road, Dublin.
 
Organizers of the event, which has been dubbed the Emerald Isle Classic, according to the L.A. Times, have decided  to line up a number of high school teams to play in Ireland. Notre Dame was an obvious choice because of the name and the similarities in their uniform.
 
Their season opener will take place 5,200 mile from their school campus in California. This is likely to be one of the longest road trips ever undertaken for a high school team.
 
Coach Kevin Rooney said the they have organized a program to begin fundraising for the trip. Fans and family members are also expected to make the trip to Ireland in 20 months to support the California Notre Dame.
