Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly said that the Fighting Irish were “making progress” after Saturday's Blue-Gold spring game at Notre Dame Stadium.

“We saw some errors that are all too familiar,” Kelly said. “I think that there were some strides made, but clearly we are not there yet.”

Referring to the interceptions thrown by Rees and Hendrix, Kelly stated, “We’ve seen that movie before,” adding “We’ve gotta move past that”.

Rees was just 7-of-14 for 84 yards in his time on the field and Hendrix was 4-of-9 for 51 yards, reports Irish Sports Daily.

“I think we saw some things that we hadn’t seen before in terms of ball placement,” Kelly said of his quarterbacks. “And then we saw some errors that are all too familiar. We’ve got a lot of work to do with all of the quarterbacks to get them to the level that we want and we have a high bar set for them.”

A sophomore, Everett Golson enjoyed the best statistical day of the quarter. However, Kelly noted that the signaling is more important than the numbers.

“The stats really don’t mean anything to me,” Kelly said. “What I didn’t like is he’s gotta get the plays in quicker. He’s gotta recognize the signaling.”

He described Golson and running back George Atkinson as exciting, electric players.

“But they are a heart attack for me. We gotta get them there, because I think we all see that they have great skill, but they are guys that are a work in progress,” Kelly added.

The Fighting Irish coach said the players commitment over the summer will be important for development.

“The guy that really commits to the details this summer is probably the guy that’s gonna be the starter,” Kelly said. “All of them have a lot of work to do. We’ll see who does a great job this summer.”
