Kerry failed to take their chances in the Pat O’Brien Cup in Boston on Sunday afternoon, going down to rivals Cork by a scoreline of Cork 1-7 to Kerry 0-3.

Cork got off to a flying start with Mike Moynihan finding the Kerry next after 2 minutes. Kerry had at least three goal chances in the half, shooting straight at the Cork goalie.

This, coupled with 3 poor wides, left Kerry trailing at the half 1-6 to 0-1. Cork scores came from Mike Moynihan 1-2,  Johnny Crowley 0-2, Lar Barden 0-1, Colm Clafferty 0-1. Kerry’s only score came from David Clifford.

Kerry held Cork to only a single point in the second half but only scored 2 points themselves. Ian Whelan had 1 point and David Clifford had the other point while another goal bound shot from Chris O’Connor was saved at close range by the Cork goalie.

A disappointing afternoon for Kerry who got a bye in the first round.
