Ireland’s Sean Greenwood ended in last place due to a crash in the second run due to a crash, which he recovered from spectacularly (see below).

The 26-year-old finished Heat 1 in 57.99 seconds to finish +2.04 seconds off the pace. This was before the crash in the second heat that saw him record a time of 1 minute and 05.11 seconds, ending up +11.11 seconds off the pace in last place.

Skeleton rider Sean Greenwood O’Foighil was raised in Vancouver by his Canadian father and a mother from Galway. He began sliding competitively in 2010, initially without a coach. However last season he had improved to the point where he won second place overall on the North American circuit.

In December 2013 he was 17th in the opening world cup race of the season in Calgary. He then came in 19th place in Park City, Utah, and 20th in Lake Placid, New York. In the final world cup race before Sochi, Greenwood secured another top 20 finish.

Heats 3 and 4 of the event will take place on Saturday.
