Rank outsider Mon Mome won the Aintree Grand National on Saturday.  At 100-1 Mon Mome joins Foinavon as the longest odds runner ever to win the race.

The race was delayed by two false starts that heightened tension, but it was the Venetia-Williams trained horse that kept his cool to win the race.

The Willie Mullins-trained Irish Invader was at the front early, but Black Apalachi sprinted out into an early lead by three or four lengths and looked good until he crashed out at Beechers Brook on the second circuit.

With five fences to go it was anyone’s race, with Offshore Account, My Will and Idle Talk all at the front.

However, it was Mon Mome who moved ahead by four lengths and debutant jockey Liam Treadwell steered the horse to an easy win by 10 lengths at the finish line.

Last year’s winner Comply or Die came in second, Ruby Walsh on My Will came in third and State of Play came fourth.
