Graeme McDowell had an up and down day at the
Masters, matching
Padraig Harrington and coming into the clubhouse with a three-under-par 69.
The
Portrush native, in only his second
Masters appearance (he missed the cut on his debut in 2005), had a dream start with birdies on one and two.
The 29-year-old gave up a shot at the fourth but birdied eight to make the turn at two-under-par.
McDowell did well at Amen corner, leaving one under after a birdie on 12 to go to minus three. Consecutive birdies on 15 and 16 brought him to five under, but a bogey on the 17th brought him back to four under par.
McDowell had a tough time of on the last, going into the rough with his drive and hitting into the bunker short of the green. The chip out of the bunker was a tad thick and he left himself a 15-footer for par.
McDowell couldn't hole out and finished bogey-bogey to end up with a 69. Though undoubtedly disappointed with the end of his round, McDowell is still well-positioned at the 2009 Masters golf tourmament .
