A quadruple bogey at the second hole on Saturday virtually ended Padraig Harrington’s hopes of contention at the U.S. Masters.

Harrington battled back well during the rest of his round to card a 73 to go one-under-par for the tournament.

The 37-year-old is currently ten shots behind the leaders on the course, and it would take a miracle round from the Dubliner on Sunday and a major capitulation from the leaders to see the Paddy slam continue.

After a par at the first, Harrington had a nine at the par 5 second hole, giving him the proverbial mountain to climb.

The 37-year-old got three birdies on the front nine to stop the rot, but consecutive bogeys on 10 and 11 ended the comeback.  Birdies on 13 and 14 suggested hope but pars on the last four holes mean Harrington probably has too much ground to make up on the final day.

Graeme McDowell, who was playing with Tiger Woods, also carded a 73 at the third round of the Masters. The 29-year-old, playing for the first time on the weekend at his second Masters, went out in 37 and came back in 36 for a one-over-par 73 on the day to go one-under-par for the tournament.

Kenny Perry and Angel Cabrera co-lead the tournament at eleven-under-par.

Tournament favorites Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson are both four-under-par.
