Longest serving sports broadcasters Seán Óg Ó’Ceallacháin - retiring this week from the National State Broadcaster RTE

This week Ireland is paying tribute to one of its longest serving sports broadcasters Seán Óg Ó’Ceallacháin who is retiring this week from the National State Broadcaster RTE.

Michael Ring, the minister of State at the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport paid homage to the veteran broadcaster saying: “I would like to congratulate Seán Óg on a wonderful career spanning 63 years.”

Originally from Newcastlewest, County Limerick, Seán Óg is RTÉ's longest serving broadcaster. His Sunday night radio show “Gaelic Sports Results’ has been running for over six decades, making it the longest running continuously broadcast radio feature in the world.

Minister Ring described his retirement as “the end of an era”.
Just two years short of his 90th birthday, his retirement marks the end of the an illustrious career in irish sport reporting.

In 2012 he will be entered  in the Guinness Book of Records for the longest career in radio  sports broadcasting the world over.
