It seems likely that Celtic will attempt to sign Stephen Ireland, who currently plays for Aston Villa during the upcoming January transfer window.

The 24-year-old Cork man took his place with Aston Villa this past summer as a part exchange in the negotiations that saw James Milner move to Manchester City.

Celtic Football Club, managed by Neil Lennon are eager to sign the midfielder and are rumored to be willing to pay around £40,000-a-week for the Cork man for the second half of the season.

Any plans to move the Irish international permanently to the club would be difficult considering his high wage demands.

The Mirror newspaper is reporting that Ireland is keen to leave Aston Villa after failing to make an impact with the club.

Please Refer to Stephen as "The Former Irish International". He has turned his back on his country when we needed him to soldify the midfield, but now rumors are rising that he wants to get back in the international scene. Only reason he wants to try and make an International return is because he isn't getting much match time at Aston Villa. If he ever wears the Green Shirt of Ireland, he will have allot to make up for.
