Sligo Rovers celebrate after big win

Sligo Rovers fans went wild on Saturday night as a late Mark Quigley goal from the penalty spot sealed a 3-2 win over St. Patrick’s Athletic and a first League of Ireland title in 35 years.

Match winner Quigley told RTE Sport, “These are the sort of days you want to be playing. You put on boots as a young lad and you hope to score the winner to win the league. Luckily enough I was put in that position to score.

“I was getting a bit of stick but I had to keep a cool head. To score in, probably, the 90th minute is just unbelievable and it’s after taking my breath away. I am just delighted to have won my first league.”

Sligo boss Ian Baraclough was delighted to win the title in his first season in charge at Sligo.

“I never made it to the Premiership as a player but I had some great times as a player. As a coach and manager, when you have success it’s something different, your head is on the block when it doesn’t go right,” he said.

“When you work with a group that works hard in unison, not for me but for each other, it’s a great feeling that can’t be mirrored as a player.”
