Rory McIlroy’s remarkable summer continues – the Irishman is in contention for the BMW Championship in Indiana.
The USPGA winner is a shot behind Phil Mickelson and Vijay Singh as he looks to win two Sundays in a row.
McIlroy and England’s Lee Westwood are tied on 15 under par in Carmel after Mickelson set the way with a course record 64.
McIlroy hit a third round 69 but said he had not been at his best.
The 23-year-old said: “It wasn’t the greatest ball-striking round out there that I’ve ever had, but I somehow managed to scrape it around in 69 and still in with a chance.
“As badly as I did hit it out there, I’m still happy with my position going into tomorrow.”

stop calling the fence straddler Irishman - his troubles with being born in occupied Ireland are going to mount. We can't overlook the southern quisling who take the schilling so willingly. Partition - that divide and conquer works miracles for troika member UK. Credit for any success by the incorporated will always accrue to the Saxon mother.
We'll be be hearing it about tennis star Murray too. This is not a first, but people forget.

Tell your editorial team to stop calling him an irishman he needs to be referred to as a Briton from now on.

Rory! What a great run!
I must admit I was worried when he hit the bad stretch this summer, but little did I know he was about to launch into arguably his best spell of golf ever. Way to go, Rory!
