Rory McIlroy has been praised by his fellow European pros after he starred in last week’s Britain and Ireland win over Europe in the Vivendi trophy, and is being tipped to be a big hit at next year's Ryder Cup.

McIlory, who said earlier this year that he was not too bothered if he played in the bi-annual tournament or not, has changed his tune after sampling professional team golf with Britain and Ireland under the captaincy of Ireland's Paul McGinley.

'I'll be very disappointed if I don't make it,' said McIlroy of next year’s Ryder at Celtic Manor in Wales.

'I've sort of forgotten how good the team environment and the team atmosphere was. Hopefully if I can keep up with the way I'm playing I should be there and I can't wait for it.'

Playing partner for the first three days and good friend Graeme McDowell was effusive in his praise for McIlroy.

'Rory's one of the most talented young players in the world right now and it's been a pleasure to play alongside him,” he told ASAP.

Henrik Stenson, who McILroy beat in singles on Sunday, had nothing but good things to day about the 20-year-old golf phenom.

"I would expect him to be on the squad, he's playing fantastic," said the world number six-ranked player after losing to the Irish man on the last hole of their singles match.

The European Ryder cup team is being captained by Colin Montgomerie, and the Scot will be praying that McIlroy qualifies for his team and continues his good form as Europe try to reclaim the Cup they lost in Kentucky last year to the Americans.
