Rory McIlroy landed a $3million consolation prize after coming up short in Atlanta on Sunday.

The Irishman finished second to America’s Brandt Snedeker in the FedEx title race.

Snedeker won the Tour Championship and the $10million bonus for topping the FedEx rankings on a dramatic Sunday.

A wildcard for the US Ryder Cup team at Medinah this week, Snedeker picked up a whopping $11.5million for his weekend.

But McIlroy, who finished second in the FedEx rankings, was far from despondent ahead of Europe’s bid to retain the Ryder Cup.

He said: “I have to stay positive. It’s been a great year and I’ve had three wins starting at the PGA Championship.

“I knew if I won this week I won the whole thing, but Brandt knew the same thing and he did what he needed to do. He played fantastic out there.”

Rory borey aliss I now wish to see him miss every putt and would have been happier seeing in the high plus columns. Also hope the USA kicks Europeans ass with Rory being the cause. The joy I was having before his hating of Ireland is gone with golf. The waddle man Harrington is what we're left with. Rory by the way walks like Stan Laural and plays with his hair somewhat like Stan used to do.
Ray, time to shake hands and move on boyo. It's obvious you know nothing about the boy or have heard him speak but "full of himself" he's not. I'm sure Rory is taking your comments to heart and will make a decision based on them. On the other hand, who care's what he does? Why doesn't he just play for Northern Ireland and the arguments will end there. The games are years away and anything could happen. Only two golfers from each country can compete so someone if going to be pissed off.
Rory is one stand-up guy!!!
Maybe England won't want McIlroy on its Olympic team if he keeps losing. Hopefully, he will then stop being so full of himself and realize that , as an Irish Catholic, he needs to learn the history of England's murderous occupation and oppression of the minority Catholic population in Northern Ireland. he ain't irish chaps, time to move on
