Ireland’s Rory McIroy has dismissed all fears that a Memphis blow-up will affect his US Open title defense in San Francisco this week.
The reigning champion goes to defend his crown after he blew up on the back nine when in contention at the FedEx St Jude Classic on Sunday.
McIlroy ended up tied seventh in a tournament he could have won with a disastrous back nine in Memphis.
He threw away a two shot lead and went into the water on 18 to fall-back to tied seventh in the tournament won by Dustin Johnson.
But, after missing a succession of cuts on both sides of the Atlantic, McIlroy was adamant he was happy with his game in his final outing before the US outing.
“I saw a lot of positive signs this week,” said world number two McIlroy.
“I got in a good position after 11 holes of the final round and hit a couple of shots coming in, but, you know, overall it’s still a pretty good week.
“I’m looking forward to getting to San Francisco and I can take a lot into the week.
“I said in the early part of the week, if I got into contention that was great. I did that. I feel like I’m well prepared going into the US Open.”

I only wish Rory did play for Ireland IC! He doesn't! Not the first time you have referred to him as being Irish! Make a note of it somewhere please!

Rory McIlroy is NOT connected to Ireland, he was born and lives in Northern Ireland UK, a separate country. There are excellent golfers in Ireland continually wholly overlooked by Irish Central.

Rory and his one million dollar car has been out partying. His tennis star girlfriend is an absolute train wreck who has been "eating him alive". He appears to have fallen into the "Tiger Woods trap" and wasting his immense talent.
