Rory McIlroy and Darren Clarke become honorary members of the European Tour
Oldest and youngest winners of Open are inducted into the European Tour
In a presentation last week in Killarney by Taoiseach Enda Kenny and the European Tour’s chief exec George O’Grady, Rory McIlroy and Darren Clark were made honorary life members.
Darren Clark is currently the oldest player to win the Claret Jug in 44 years, after he was victorious at this year’s Open. It had been his 20th attempt at such a win, and he’s now ranked 30th in the world.
Opposite him is Rory McIlroy, who, although dually inducted, was given the honor for a different reason; he’s the youngest winner to win the Open in 78 years at just 22 years old.
McIlroy will be playing with Graeme McDowell at the World Cup held in China this November, according to Leaderboard Golf.
"G-Mac's the next highest on the rankings, said McIlroy. “...it will be me and him again.”
