His security fears aren't based on any possible paramilitary incident. It's just some members of the public who wont respect his privacy. Before his US Open win Rory was already famous in Northern Ireland but he could still go to his local supermarket or go for a night out with his girlfriend without much attention. Now that's become pretty much impossible. I guess he's finding it hard to cope with the constant attention he gets. He lives in a small town just outside Belfast, in a very small country where he is now instantly recognizable to EVERYBODY! At least in America non golf fans won't recognize him. Good luck to him, here's hoping next time he's in Belfast he'll have another trophy with him!

I would say that a player of his caliber needs a climate like Florida so that he can play everyday. He'll never get that climate in Northern Ireland or the whole 32 counties. I can't figure out why he would need security. I don't believe that any extremist group Ptotestant or Catholic would want to harm a sports figure. At least, they never have and I am confident that they never will. He would probably have to have a minimum security against some nutcake.
