Perry Fewell of the New York Giants has a problem - How do you contain New England Patriots’ Tom Brady?
Fewell preps Big Blue’s defense for Super Bowl XLVI
Perry Fewell, defensive coordinator for the New York Giants, is feeling the pressure of the upcoming threat of Patriots quarterback Tom Brady. Fewell spoke to reporters today, Reuters reports.
"Things are always going off in your head about what you can do, how you can do it better, how to disguise what kind of looks you can give to the guy," said Fewell to reporters today.
Brady is a force to be reckoned with in terms of the New York Giants defense tactics. Brady threw for a career-high 5,235 yards and tossed 39 touchdown passes this season. No east feat to overcome in the Super Bowl.
Fewell mentioned that he was trying to keep his players at ease by having them imagine Super Bowl XLVI in Indianapolis as just another football game, and not to get caught up in the buzz of it all.
"If I make it any bigger than that then I think I'll paralyze myself and my players," said Fewell.
When it comes to touchdowns, Rob Gronkowski of the New England Patriots is Tom Brady’s go-to-guy, especially after Brady connected with Gronkowski in 17 of the 39 touchdowns he made this season.

However, and perhaps luckily for the New York Giants, Gronkowski has been sidelined for the past few days with an ankle injury, making his appearance this Sunday uncertain.
"We don't know if he will or if he won't, it's very difficult," Fewell said. "You try and study, but he's been in every football game they've played in this year, so what will they do without him? It's a difficult thing to plan for."
"Our whole principal is to stop the run first,” Fewell said of the Patriots, who often try, and succeed, to dictate the pace of their games, “...more so than stop the pass. If we make them one dimensional it's an easier game for us.”
With the tension building up, Fewell also worries that he may overload his players with too many different plans of attack for Sunday’s showdown.
"I usually go into a game with a set number of things to run. But this is a special occasion."
