College football powerhouse and scandal ridden Penn State is looking to play a football game in Ireland according to Coach Bill O’Brien, following up on the hugely successful Notre Dame/Navy game there last year.

"We are definitely looking into playing in Ireland, no question about it,'' O'Brien said told State College News.

"We're working on an opponent and we're working with the Big Ten on that. So that's something that's definitely in the works.''

O’Brien has pulled off a remarkable turnaround for Penn State, one of the great college football programs, after the Jerry Sandusky pedophile scandal and the involvement of legendary coach Joe Paterno in the alleged cover-up threatened to destroy the program.

A Penn State game in Ireland is bound to rake up the pedophile issue in a country where it is already a massive story.

The Jerry Sandusky episodes have been widely reported there and it is certain to be a major focus when and if the game is played. The legend of the late Joe Paterno and his family's attack on the Freeh report into the Sandusky scandal would also feature prominently in the story line.

Sandusky worked for Paterno for thirty years and was convicted of 52 counts of molestation of young boys.

Other members of the Big Ten include Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Ohio State, Wisconsin Minnesota, Michigan State, Northwestern, Purdue.

yankee stop go so called football is so ho hum compared to our fast moving non armoured warriors, keep it where it belongs ,with all its hyped up hysteria, its for woossies.
This is crazy. Penn State are about as much an "Oirish" institution as Notre Dame. Why do these mediocrities claim to be something they're not? West central PA is mostly Italian and Polack.
"CitizenWhy" - Why Ireland? It happens all over the world. Éamonn, Dublin.
I suppose Ireland would be an appropriate venue for an institution that covered up a boy rape scandal.

Don't let Penn State rapists in Ireland until the PA governor drops the lawsuit and admits complicity in the coverup while he was AG. The governor is a member of the Penn State board and is responsible for roughly half of its members.
Sounds good to me! Céad Míle Fáilte, Penn State!! BTW, why do "Irish Central Staff Writers" think/say that the Penn State/Jerry Sandusky affair is a "massive story" in Ireland? I guarantee that if you asked 100 random people in Ireland who is Jerry Sandusky, not more than 3 or 4 (at the very most) would have any clue. Cop yourselves on. Éamonn, Dublin, Ireland.
The last thing Penn State needs is to be calling attention to itself.
These boys need to stay home and clean up the place!
