It was a tough weekend in Queens for the NY Shamrocks first team after their 3-0 defeat by NY Ukrainians saw them exit the Flamhaft Cup in the second round.

Played in beautiful sunshine at McClancy High School in East Elmhurst on Sunday afternoon, the Rocks conceded a goal just before half-time but managed to dominate the second half exchanges until two quick goals sealed the victory for the visitors with a quarter of an hour to go.

"We're disappointed obviously," said manager Glen Wrafter. "But they deserved the win even if the scoreline flattered them slightly."

There was a consolation win for the club in the Marth Cup curtain-raiser meanwhile, the Over 30s team beating NY Dinamo 4-2 with goals from Emmet Harvey (2), a penalty from Burim 'Benny' Ljuta and the clinching fourth late on from Glen Wrafter.

"I'm absolutely delighted with the win," said manager Paddy Mc Carry. "It was a hard game for us. We were short a few players. But we deserved the win and we'll move into the last 16 with confidence."

As someone who has made 10 plus visits to NY, I am always amazed at the ethnic diversity which continues to be active in the city. That is actually what makes the city so wonderful with all of the cultures involved.
