Cork 2-17 Kerry 0-08
It was an easy win for Cork in the first game of the afternoon on Sunday at Gaelic Park as they scored at will over a weakened Kerry.
They stormed out the gate with four points before the patrons had settled in their seats, and easily withstood points from Ross Donavan from a free and play by adding a John Fitzpatrick and JP Boyle brace.
Boyle followed his drive by adding his second this time with the other foot, his left as he was showing that he was very much on form.
Kerry had their best period when they added two points from Dermie Foley and Shane Carty, narrowing the Cork advantage to thres points, 0-07 to 0-04.
That was their extent of the scoring however in the first thirty as Cork ran of 2-05 without reply. The goals came from Francie Cleary and Sean Lordon, both after defensive mistakes. Cleary an easy tap in, Lordon a bullet to the right corner.
In a shortened second half Kerry did a little better on the scoreboard as they had four points to Cork's five. It did little to affect the end result however as Cork brought on subs and kept purring to the finish line.
JP Boyle had three points in the half while Bingo O’Driscoll had a trifecta in reply. Bingo was now playing in a forward role as he had switched with Dermie Foley. Boyle had seven points on the day and he certainly showed that he is back to the form he had shown in his previous trip to New York when he played with Clare.
Brilliant defensive play by Conor Hunter and Liam Hanley made every attack difficult for the Kingdom and the depth of the panel they have shows they are a real threat to go all the way. They are now in the semi final of the Knockout tournament after this impressive result.
