Muhammad Ali will be made a freeman of Ennis during his historic Irish visit, and will be the first person to receive the honorary freedom of the town.

And he has confirmed that he will visit the house where his great-grandfather Abe Grady lived in Ennis, on Tuesday, September 1.

The 67-year-old boxing legend will visit the house in the afternoon, after a civic reception in the town center.

Ali will be in Dublin to attend a fundraiser for his Alltech Muhammad Ali Center Global Education and Charitable Fund on August 31, before heading south to Clare to visit the town his great grandfather Abe Grady called home.

This will be the three-time world heavyweight champion's third visit to the Emerald Isle. 

In 1972,  he fought Alvin Lewis at Croke Park and won by technical knockout in the 11th round. In 2003, Ali went to Dublin and was a special guest at the opening ceremony of the Special Olympics. And now, in 2009, he is going to see where his family came from.
