Manchester City remain on top of the Premier League following a smashing away success over Newcastle United.

Yaya Toure was the star of the show for City, bagging a late brace as Newcastle United's Champions League ambitions were dented.

City are now 90 minutes away from securing the title, but manager Roberto Mancini is remaining calm and composed.

"It is not finished. It is important that we get three points next week, we need a big effort - there is one game more. I think for us it should be a normal week. We don't change nothing, QPR will be tough, they are fighting for relegation. Nothing changes. It is ours to lose. It doesn't depend on other teams anymore.

"Toure's first goal was special, like the one he scored in the FA Cup final for us last year. This one may be more important if we can finish the season off.

"Newcastle are a good team, they have had a fantastic season. But we deserved to win today, we scored two goals and created three of four other chances to score more. Everyone played really well, the whole team played really well."

Newcastle boss Alan Pardew is still hopeful of a top four finish. "We knew the first goal was going to change everything. We didn't get it but we had a few chances to. Once that goal went in, we had to push on and that opened us up a bit.

"It was a great performance by my team. You have to say Manchester City were brilliant. When you can bring on one world star for another...that freshness just made the difference. But it is never over in the race for the Premier League title, no matter who your opponents are.

"We have great potential at this football club. We are back where we should be, we have tradition and history that few clubs can match. If we can win at Everton next week it will put massive pressure on Arsenal and Spurs. They have go to win now."

Manchester United hit two first half goals to beat Swansea City, but they will need a favour from QPR to retain their crown.

Paul Scholes and Ashley Young struck for the Red Devils, who face Sunderland at the Stadium of Light next weekend

Tottenham Hotspur failed to take advantage of Arsenal's draw with Norwich City as Aston Villa frustrated Harry Redknapp's side.

Republic of Ireland international Ciaran Clark scored for Villa before Tottenham's Danny Rose was sent off for a foul on Alan Hutton.

Emanuel Adebayor grabbed a second half equaliser from a penalty, but Tottenham were disappointed to only take a point.

Wolverhampton Wanderers and Everton divided the spoils at Molineux as Terry Connor's charges avoided a 10th League loss on the spin.

Bolton Wanderers are deep in relegation trouble after squandering a two goal lead at home against West Bromwich Albion.

Martin Petrov netted a penalty and a Billy Jones own goal had Bolton in command, but the Baggies responded.

Chris Brunt and James Morrison scored late goals for the visitors and Bolton's woes were compounded when news filtered through about QPR's Loftus Road success over Stoke City.
