Lou Macari: Tony Mowbray the man to lead Celtic
Former Celtic player and manager Lou Macari has told Setanta Ireland that he thinks West Brom boss Tony Mowbray should be appointed as the new Celtic boss.
Swansea manager Roberto Martinez is currently heavily linked with replacing Gordon Strachan, who resigned his Parkhead position after losing the title to Rangers.
However, Macari believes Mowbray, whom he managed during his brief tenure as Celtic boss, would be the perfect choice.
"I think Tony Mowbray would be a great choice. I had Tony as a player, he was a fantastic player for me and a great captain as well. He led by example. He rolled his sleeves up and went out and fought his corner," he told TheHub.
Macari told of one occasion during Mowbray's time at Celtic, when he starred in a match at Ibrox against Rangers despite having spent the previous four days nursing his terminally ill wife.
"I remember he played for me at Ibrox in one game where he had spent the previous four days at the bedside of his wife who was very ill with cancer at the time," he said.
"I told him not to worry about Saturday but he called me on the Friday and told me he wanted to play.
"After the game, he was in the bath and out of the bath in two minutes, into a taxi and back home to his wife. That was a great day for us, but I especially remember it for what Tony Mowbray did."
Macari also revealed that Mowbray could be looking for a way out of The Hawthorns.
"I don't think he's too happy at West Brom, especially with the money he didn't get last season that he thought he was going to get.
"Tony Mowbray is certainly in the frame and I think if he got the chance he would leave West Brom and go back to Celtic," he concluded.
