Limerick field hockey player Rebecca Barry makes ESPN’s top ten plays list - VIDEO
Barry makes impressive play during collegiate game
A Limerick native made one of ESPN’s top ten lists this week when she wowed viewers with some fancy fieldwork.
Rebecca Barry, playing for the Richmond Spiders in the US, tipped the ball past her Temple University opponents a number of times before sending the ball into the goal from an impressive angle, all inside the first minute of the game.
Barry’s plays helped lead Richmond to a victory over Temple with a final score of 4-1.
The Journal reports that Barry is no stranger to athletic success - the 19-year-old was the captain of the Irish under-18 side that finished fourth in the European Championship in Utrecht, Holland, and was named in the Atlantic 10 Championship All-Tournament team after helping the Richmond Spiders to the title in 2011.
She was also named last year’s Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year.
