SCOTLAND 12 PTS
IRELAND 8 PTS

Ireland's Six Nations hopes are over and coach Declan Kidney is hanging onto his job by his fingertips after defeat to Scotland in Edinburgh.

A wretched performance in a game they dominated for long spells means Kidney is unlikely to be kept on when his contract expires in the summer.

New out-half Paddy Jackson played well but kicked poorly to raise serious questions about his selection.

And Kidney will have to answer why Ireland enjoyed 80 per cent possession in the first-half but only led 3-0 at the break thanks to a Jackson penalty.

By 55 minutes they were 8-0 ahead thanks to a Craig Gilroy try but that was that as far as the visitors were concerned.

Four unanswered penalties from Greig Laidlaw were enough to secure a Scottish win and condemn Ireland to also-rans in the title race.
