Mark Murphy has beaten Mallory Blackwelder to become one of the finalists on the Golf Channels “Big Break Ireland” The Kerry-native along with Canadian Julien Trudeau.

After she was knocked out Blackwelder has only kind words to say about Mark who’s showing himself to be a worth opponent.

She said “After losing to Mark, I was extremely disappointed, but I was thankful to have lost to such a great friend. Mark became like another brother to me in Ireland, and if I wasn’t going to win, I was glad that he would get the opportunity to. I felt the same way about Julien. I was just really glad that two great people, and great players, were going to be in the final match.”

Murphy from Waterville, County Kerry, started to play golf at the age of 16 and became a scratch golfter by the age of 19. For over ten years he caddied for PGA Tour player Rocco Mediate. It certainly looks like he could now win this competition and be in with a chance to win this competition.

Before the contest he said, in an interview with the Golf Channel, he reckoned the interviewer who helped choose him for the competition was “drunk”.

The show initially featured a cast of six men and six women competing against each other in an attempt to make real their lifelong dreams of playing alongside the world’s top golfers.

Contestants, who include professionals on mini-tours as well as amateurs who aspire to play golf professionally, engaged in a series of golfing challenges, with the weakest performer eliminated after each challenge.

At the end of the competition, the winner will be awarded a “Big Break”, with a number of prizes including a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to compete in a top professional golf tournament.

Produced in co-operation with Tourism Ireland, the Golf Channel’s reality show “Big Break” is now in its 16th season, with this year’s “Big Break Ireland” filmed at the renowned K Club in Co Kildare, home of the 2006 Ryder Cup.

Tourism Ireland estimated that the publicity from the show would be approximately $12 million and would reach 83 million American households and golf fans.
