Keith Andrews says yes to West Brom but Leon Best rejects Celtic
Irish players mixed fortunes on transfer deadline day
Irish midfielder Keith Andrews has got the move he wanted and signed for West Brom – but striker Leon Best has turned down the chance to play for Celtic.
Andrews completed a switch to West Brom from Blackburn just hours before the transfer window closed on Tuesday night.
The Dubliner has signed a short-term deal until the end of the season with an option to renew.
He had become increasingly frustrated with a lack of first team opportunities at Blackburn and spent most of this season on loan at Ipswich.
“I am delighted to be a West Brom player now and really looking forward to it,” said Andrews.
“The European Championships are coming up this summer and I need to be playing football to stay in Giovanni Trapattoni’s plans.”

Baggies manager Roy Hodgson told Albion’s official website wba.co.uk: “Keith is a player I know well and have admired for several years.
“He is a flexible midfielder who can play in a number of roles across midfield. He will bring experience to the squad and also has a good goalscoring record.
“We’re delighted to have him on board as we look to achieve our primary target, which is to secure a third successive season of Barclays Premier League football.”
Best meanwhile turned down the chance to move to Glasgow Celtic on deadline day after manager Neil Lennon had agreed a transfer fee with Newcastle United.
The Irish striker travelled to Scotland but rejected the move for personal reasons.
