The Glens of Antrim and Portrush in particular is certainly proud of Graeme's achievement in this Tourney,Him and Padraig Harrington have shown the world the high degree of professionalism Irish Golf has attained, It is just wonderful to watch our own included with the worlds greatest and not just playing at their level but beating them,Kinda makes me wish I'd kept hacking away at our 9 hole links in Cushendall ho hum.. It is enough to make you forget your Economic woes for an hour or three...Well done those men......
What a year for Graeme! I had the opportunity to briefly speak to Graeme on a practice range back in his college days, and he was the nicest guy you could imagine. I could not be happier for his great success. Rory McIlroy's scramble to halve his match after leaving the ball in the bunker on the 18th was big as well, not to mention the points he and Graeme scored as a team. And while Paddy Harrington didn't have a very good week, well, hey, he still has three majors to his name!
I wasn’t in a position to watch the final day of the Ryder Cup live on tv today but I did watch highlights of it this evening. It certainly was a close-run thing for Europe, fair dues to the Americans for the fight-back to the wire. Wasn’t that a great fairway shot by Tiger Woods? - Straight into the hole! I’m delighted that an Irishman sealed it for the Europeans. Congratulations to European team Captain Montgomery for his astute choice of US Open winner McDowell to play last; Graeme’s experience and nerve won it. Congratulations to all the European golfers; commiserations to the US team.
@Irishfez, I did try to play golf a few years but I was turned away from the club because I showed up with a hurley. They discriminated against me because I did'nt have and could'nt afford golfclubs.Ta hell with golf and its elitist members.
Antoman, you obviously haven't played golf in Ireland. Hyattsville is right - golf in Ireland ain't elitist. You sound a bit wacko.
Wow he is having an awesome year. Seems like a really likeable fellow too. Antoman - golf courses are hardly swallowing up the landscape in Ireland. They are operated on member fees, and contrary to what you may believe much of the membership of clubs in rural Ireland is comprised of blue collar workers. Golf is also one of the main tourist attractions in Ireland and Northern Ireland thanks to the likes of McDowell. Nobody is forcing you to watch it. You and Dubya are both very welcome to watch your sport of choice!
Golf?A boring sport for elitists and corrupt icecream van sales people.18 holes of sheared lawn which could otherwise be used by the unemployed to cultivate potatoes and cut turf in the swampy areas. While this depression continues it should be banned from participants and not allowed to be broadcast on tv,,did'nt Bush say he would refrain from this elitist sport?Besides which, the land could be utilised for the irish space mission I mentioned in Nial O Dowds post.
Well done Graeme! Northern Ireland & all of Europe is proud of you!
