Nineteen-year-old Grainne Murphy is joined by fellow teenager Sycerika McMahon as one of Ireland’s main hopefuls in the London Olympics.

McMahon (17) recently captured a silver medal at the European Championships and is the current holder of the Irish 50 meter breaststroke record with a time of 31.27 seconds.

While Murphy comes out of the University of Limerick Arena, McMahon is a Belfast trained swimmer with high hopes heading into the games in just under two week’s time.

The young athlete is from Portaferry, County Down and secured Olympic qualification at the recent championships in Hungary after finishing fifth in the 100m breaststroke final.

The teenage pairing of Murphy and McMahon make up a large percentage of Ireland’s Olympic medal aspirations and are a great representation of the quality present in Irish swimming at the moment and with Bethany Carson, Fiona Doyle, and Melanie Nocher also qualifying, the team looks to be in a strong position heading to London.
