Irish golfer Padraig Harrington has been named the greatest Irish sportsman of all time.

He defeated rugby legend Brian O'Driscoll for the honor in a poll carried out by the national Irish TV station RTE.

Harrington is a three-time major winner who is still at the pinnacle of his career.

He won the British Open twice and the PGA championship in America,

Among other legends he beat were soccer player Roy Keane, female athlete Sonia Sullivan, cyclist Sean Kelly, and hurler Christy Ring.

Harrington now bases himself on the U.S.tour and will be a favorite to add to his major victories, especially if Tiger Woods continues his absence from the tour past the 2010 majors.

They got to be joking. No athlete other than Sonia. How about Delaney, Marcus O'Sullivan,Coughlan.How long did Coughlan hold the world record for the indoor mile? No Gaelic footballer mentioned,no boxer.Irish Central how about letting us have a write in instead of only three choices?

Gimme a break, I am not even sure that Golf qualifies as athletics, But as for Sonia Sullivan,She is the greatest Loser of all time, Roy Keane is Mr Nasty Ass of all time, I don't even know who Sean Kelly is, I would have put Brian O'Driscoll up there after winning the Grand Slam last year for sure. Golf is a very border line sport so should not count as a sport for the average Irish person who could not even afford to join a Goff Club so stuff this rubbish
