David Tweed, a former Irish Rugby International star, has been found guilty on 13 child sex abuse charges at Antrim Crown Court on Wednesday.
Tweed, who is the current councilor for Ballymena in Northern Ireland, was originally up for 14 charges of abuse against two girls over an 8 year period but was cleared of one charge of indecent assault on Tuesday, according to The Guardian.

According to BBC News, the 53 year old shook his head when he was found guilty by the jury.
Crown Court Judge Alistair Devlin called his crimes ‘vile, wicked, dastardly and distasteful’ and stated that they would be treated very seriously when he is sentenced in the New Year.

Screw Roman Catholicism and/or Anglican Protestantism. How about a little Christian forebearance once in a millenium. It's very easy to lead a torch bearing haranguing lynchmob to parade ones sanctimoniousness. What troubles me is what damaged that little boy called David (and many more besides) all those years ago. It's a psychotherapeutic truism that those who abuse children in any way are usually unconsciously recapitulating what was done to them at that precise age, and in that precise way. Violence is the language of the unheard. Should we not take the cotton wool out of our ears? To understand all IS to forgive all!

seamus60 | Dec 01, 2012, 09:07 AM EST

puffin | Dec 01, 2012, 05:42 AM EST

seamus60 | Nov 30, 2012, 08:13 PM EST
There should be NO EXCEPTION allowed to peadophiles and those who shelter them in any way shape or form . Both should be before a court.
seamus60 | Nov 30, 2012, 08:07 PM EST
The sad reality is that he is a convicted peadophile by way of jury and leaves victims behind regardless of their religion or political affilliation.

jacersagin, over egg the pudding somewhat MI5 where only interested in gaining control of Loyalist Paramiilaries who may or not be Peados MGrath springs to mind,Any member of the Royal Family arriving at Belfasr would have come to notice straight away,Anyway why come to Belfast when you have London,Peter King is still in the frame
puffin | Nov 30, 2012, 07:00 PM EST
Point being that if someone killed 300 of my fellow countryman, or at one time had had common cause with them I would be very very angry, King should be brought to account,
jacersagain | Nov 30, 2012, 06:58 PM EST
puffin makes a good point at 05.11pm. puffin could also have, in Christian Unionist fairness, mentioned the huge cover-up by the Unionist-dominated Royal Ulster Constabulary and the British Crown’s secretive MI5 of that child-abusing member of his/her esteemed British family, his/her UK’s Queen’s boy-loving cousin, Lord Mountbatten, notorious for abuse of Indian boys during his 'Regal' time there, being ‘facilitated’ by members of his/her (puffin's) Unionist fraternity in abusing young boys at the Kincora Boys Care Home during the 1970’s. But perhaps puffin is too young to know the history of the facility that the “caring” people, who ran the Home for disenfranchised Protestant boys, afforded to some members of the NI judiciary, RUC members, Unionist politicians and their co-fraternity members apart from Mountbatten. The history can be “googled” for eye-“goggling” info of events in NI Protestant people’s lives during the 1970’s and before, before it was exposed by a few of the boys who suffered their abuse in that “caring home”.

jacersagain | Nov 30, 2012, 06:11 PM EST
Agree with IrelandNorth and Seanomelb. Let’s leave aside that Davy Tweed was a renowned provincial and international rugby player, a politician elected by his community, an Orangeman or member of the Royal Black Preceptory (also known as the Black Institution) and a Catholic and Irish Republican hater… let’s just concentrate on the fact that he is also a member of the rest of society, a husband and father and a convicted drunk-driver. He’s been violent to his 2 wives and his children and now found guilty of numerous incidents of child sexual abuse. That’s normal… for 2% of our Irish Christian and non-Christian community…. as is normal for 2% of all clergymen of most of whatever religion’s community. Ah… Well now, if only we could get rid of this 2%’s “normality” behaviour, then media like Irish Central would have little else to write about as far as I can see from the majority of it's "Most Read" publications.
puffin | Nov 30, 2012, 05:11 PM EST
Quite a few skeletons in that particular cupboard, as a Unionist I have to say, one in particular a childrens home in East Belfast, I still think Peter King has a lot of questions to answer as regards Lockerbie
misneac | Nov 30, 2012, 01:29 PM EST
Slowly the truth will out about Mr .Paisleys troops ! Rather quiet that man for a number of years now about child abuse !!!!!

(a) 6' 5" ex-Irish rugby international. (b) Ulster provincial player. (c) Hardline Traditional Unionist Voice (TUV) Ballymena, north Antrim Councillor. (d) Ex-Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) member who left in protest over it's power-sharing with Sínn Féin (SF) in the devolved Northern Ireland Assembly and Executive (NIA/E). (e) Ex-Orange Order member. (f) Ex-Royal Black Preceptory member. (b) - (f) above somewhat downplated in most northern media particularly and British media more generally, with emphasis on (a) mostly. Claimed to wear Ulster jersey under Irish, so that red hand of Ulster would be closest to his heart rather than the shamrock of Ireland more generally. Shook hands with Her Excellency President Mary Robinson in Landsdowne Road at matches in 1990s. While standing to attention for Amhrán na bhFíann, allegedly hummed God Save the Queen whilst doing so, (a feat of considerable musical dexterity). Estranged from 5'3" ex-wife (and 4 children/2 step)after domestic violence. Sad case overall, but reassuring to know that Ulster unionist ubermenschen are as imperfect as their Munster, Leinster and Connacht untermenschen provincial comparators.
puffin | Nov 30, 2012, 06:07 AM EST
Adams has not been brought before the courts yet so he is still innocent, are you trying to muddy the legal water here, seanomelb due process should take place before you make these assertions,or do you have another agenda
puffin | Nov 30, 2012, 05:45 AM EST
Who would try to condone what this person done, still he was brought to justice and will hopefully pay the price for his disgusting crimes,as a unionist I am proud to be in the part of Ireland that takes a robust stance to this sort of thing,no cover up in this instance, having said that these people are very manipulative, and will get to positions of power in any society, watch out for your children at all times
TayandCake | Nov 29, 2012, 08:52 PM EST
Yes Seanomelb, sometimes the truth is not important
seanomelb | Nov 29, 2012, 05:31 PM EST
