Give the game ball to Kyle McCarthy, the young Irish kid with two key interceptions that ended the Boston College six-win nightmare against Notre Dame.
McCarthy also had five key tackles and made up for his poor game last week against USC. The Irish once against proved they are a fourth-quarter team, coming from behind to post an epic victory.
The doubts about this team still resonate. They should have out BC away long before the Jimmy Clausen pass to who else Golden Tate put them ahead for good. The team still lacks that killer punch that puts away poor teams like Boston College.
For the third time a freshman quarterback gave Notre Dame fits. Against Michigan, USC and now BC, Notre Dame faced enormous difficulties against first-time starters which could have come back to haunt them.
Notre Dame has now been in close last-quarter games in every contest this season with the exception of Nevada. Nonetheless this team is finding a way to win more often than not, and they proved that against BC with Smith's last-minute interception.
Weis said after the game that he knew no matter what that someone on his side had to make a big play at the end of the game. That's the
way it is with Notre Dame this year, Every game is a cardiac kids affair.
In the end, Notre Dame won the turnover ratio thanks to McCarthy, and that was the game.
