Rory is the US Open champion without equal and in his own right. One brave sportscaster in the US advised his colleagues to not be comparing him to the disgraced golfer or to any other golfer. So, don't.

Both Rory Mc And Graeme McDowell fly the flag of Northern Ireland. The media and pundits are a great laugh - it similar in Scotland except worse. When a Scottish athlete wins they become British but when they lose they become Scottish. Here were have Southern Irish and English / British pundits claiming him...but it`s the Northern Ireland flag he chooses to fly not the Union flag or the Irish tri-colour.

Watching Rory, with my brother in Niagara Falls, made us
both very proud. Our great grandparents, on both sides, were from Ireland. "The Emerald Isle." We, as many Irish, over here, in the States, feel a closeness with Rory. We are pulling for him, each and every tournament.

Comparing Tiger Woods to Rory is the height of stupidity.Rory laughs, jokes , smiles and likes life and being Irish. is media friendly . Tiger Woods -that DOUR bore - give me a break.

Northern Ireland has a population of 2650000 and has produced many world champions in various sports. but to produce two USA Open winners in successive years is out of this world and incidentally , to all you folk commenting on Rory's culture let me say this---------the fact that Rory's dad was shrouded in the Northern Ireland flag says it all ! Amen

danieldevine: "a holder of a British passport because he has no choice!" This is new to me--people in the North of Ireland "have no choice" about holding a British passport? As far as I am concerned, McIlroy is welcome to hold a passport from Bolivia if he wishes to, but do please give us a little more information to back up your claim.

One has to congratulate McIlroy, but I also have to smile when I see the people from the 26 Counties claiming him as "Irish". He's no more Irish than Prince Harry or whoever it was that got married a couple of weeks back. Whenever there's anything bad involved, the people from the 26 Counties are quick to whine about "dem ones up dare" and claim that they are not of the same nationality. "I wish de nort cud be towed ou'n de Atlantic and sunk", is the empty cliche they come out with. But when one of dem ones frum de Nort is successful the Southerners start salivating to be associated with him. They're spineless skunks, if that's not a zoological impossibility.

Congratulations Rory on an amazing accomplishment! And I would think that the nice Catholic boy from Northern Ireland would consider himself Irish but a holder of a British passport because he has no choice! It really doesn't matter...He just elevated the game of golf to something that hasn't been seen since the early career of Tiger!

Regardless of Rory being Irish or Northern Irish he is very good for the game of golf. I spent all weekend watching and enjoyed every minute. Please everyone forget the Politics and just enjoy this phenom at work, you will not see his like again in your lifetime
