Dublin CIE Overpower FDNY
Mike Reilly gave New York a tonic start to the second half with a point from a free, but they joy was short-lived as Damien McCarthy sailed through the home boys' rearguard before firing over a point.
New York were playing much better at the start of this half, but unfortunately all they had to show for it was two missed close in frees.
Dave Dineen had a fine point for CIE. New York answered with a point from a free by O'Sullivan after Annette was pulled down as he went through.
CIE then sealed the win when a mistake in the New York defense allowed sub Aiden Larkin to win possession with only the keeper to beat, and he made no mistake with a shot to the corner of the net. He followed with a point and New York was not going to come back from this deficit.
A very entertaining opening game of football. New York acquitted themselves well, but CIE were superior in fitness and this was the difference.
For the locals, Jo Jo O'Sullivan, Barry Annette, Sean Fitzpatrick and Dennis Kiely were good.
FDNY: 1 J.J. O'Sullivan, 2 J. Meaney, 3 S. Fitzpatrick, 4 P. Lenihan, 5. B Madden, 6 T. McHugh, 7 D. Hayes, 8 J. Walsh, 9 D. Kiely, 10 M. Reilly, 11 A. Dennis, 12 B. Annette, 13 J. O'Riordan, 14 B. Murphy, 15 B. Donaghue. Subs: B. Kehoe, S White, P. Lyons, E. Boles, B. Quinn.
