Celtic blows two goal lead against Dundee United at Tannadice
Neil Lennon bans talk of this week’s mouth-watering Champions League clash
Neil Lennon had banned all talk of this week’s mouth-watering Champions League clash with Barcelona, but something was on his players’ minds as Celtic threw a two goal lead away to draw 2-2 with Dundee United at Tannadice.
Substitute Miku and Tony Watt scored to put Celtic ahead with 10 minutes to go, but substitute Gary Mackay-Steven offered United some hope with a last minute goal before an OG from Efe Ambrose secured a point.
Manager Lennon admitted, “It is very frustrating because we were so good. We were excellent, the level of performance was very high.
“Our play in general was very good, so in terms of play and chances created, everything was there. We didn’t get what we deserved which was three points.
“But I am not going to criticize the team. There will be people out there who will criticize us but that performance was very good today.
“There were some brilliant individual performances and we got what we deserved with two great goals. I am annoyed that we didn’t see the game out, but that’s football.
“We just switched off and let Dundee United get up a head of steam for two or three minutes and they got a lucky break for the second goal.
“Is it two points dropped? Yes it is, but we didn’t get what we deserved which was the win.”
Georgios Samaras (ankle), Gary Hooper (hamstring) and James Forrest (hamstring) all missed the trip to Dundee while defenders Thomas Rogne and Emilio Izaguirre picked up knocks ahead of the Barcelona game on Wednesday.
