Now pitching for Notre Dame - coach Brian Kelly.

No, not really but when fans show up twilight at Yankee Stadium on November 20 next it won't be game 24 of the World Series. It will be Notre Dame versus Army in an historic clash at the home of baseball.

It will also mark the first time in many years that Notre Dame will be back in the New York area.

The last game, if I'm not mistaken, was in Giants Stadium in the kickoff off classic against Maryland in 2002.

But Meadowlands is not Yankees stadium, a field of dreams unrivalled in sports.

Notre Dame and Army used to play all the time in the New York area. They faced each other 22 times between 1925 and 1946 there. They also played in Ebbets Field, the old Polo grounds and the old Shea Stadium.

The 1928 game is one of the most storied in history with the "Win one for the Gipper speech,"  Knute Rockne role later made famous by then actor Ronald Reagan

Ironically, Notre Dame can thank Charlie Weis in part for the game in New York.

Weis recalled how he asked George Steinbrenner that Notre Dame be the first team to play college ball in the new park.

Weis, recounting the conversation said, "I looked at him and said, 'Mr. Steinbrenner, you've got this new stadium going up. I mean, you're not going to have Notre Dame and Army scheduled for your first football game?"' the Notre Dame coach recalled.

"He laughed, first of all. You know, I don't think he's used to people busting his chops too often."

notre dame is going to look good running on that new green grass from endzone to endzone beating army again. go..go..go..fight..fight..fight..fight.
