Pinkett is confirming that as a minor-league system for the NFL, colleges should be expected to 'employ' some bad apples, just like the NFL does, many of whom are also their top stars. This is the result of top stars concentrating on athletics at an early age, and not academics. As for their not being paid at the college level other than with a free education, which for many of them is not that big a prize, there should be some concern about not paying minorities for their labor. Such a system 150 years ago did not end well.
