13-year-old Dublin soccer star signed to Liverpool Football Club
Center-back was also pursued by Manchester United, Manchester City, and Chelsea
A 13-year-old, Dublin, soccer star had landed himself a position at the Liverpool Football Club.
There seems to be an abundance of super young sports stars coming out of Ireland with nine-year-old Zak Gilsenan joining Barcelona and eight-year-old John Joe Patrick Finn joining Real Madrid recently.
Conor Masterson made the decision to go for Liverpool over Manchester United or Manchester City despite being a Reds fan. The Irish Daily Star reports that Masterson was also pursued by Chelsea.
Masterson has signed a $1.23 million (€1m) deal. When he turns 16 he will move to Liverpool full-time.
His father Ciaran said “Conor felt that Liverpool was the best place for him and that was the most important. This is just the first rung of the ladder for Conor.”
Masterson has already made his mark on Dublin’s soccer scene. The center-back was part of the Dublin & District Schoolboys League (DDSL) side who won the Schoolboys Football Association of Ireland (SFAI) Kennedy Cup in June. He has also already been called up for the Irish under-15 squad.
