IrishCentral.com Poll
Coach Brian Kelly dropped himself in some hot water on Saturday as the cameras picked up on the obvious stream of expletives that came out of his mouth as he balled T.J. Jones out following another turnover in the game against the South Florida Bulls.
The disastrous game ended 23-20 to the Bulls with the Fighting Irish deflated and defeated. Many believed that this season would be a changing point for the team and this game simply did not go as planned.
However Kelly’s sideline cursing seems to have created more of a buzz.
The National Catholic Register saw what happened on the sidelines as being more damaging to the colleges reputation. As they put it “ Let me tell you something, you didn’t need to be a lip reader to figure out what he was saying. By the look on my 11-year-old’s face, she figured it out pretty quick.

“To put it bluntly, if there was a drinking game where you drank every time Kelly cursed I would’ve needed help getting off the couch, never mind getting to bed.”
They continued “I've seen Brian Kelly in interviews and he seems like a decent guy but isn't this type of behavior unfit for any grown-up, never mind the most recognizable face of the country's most well known Catholic university?
“I understand football coaches aren't kindergarten teachers. But given the reality of the game and knowing that families are watching, couldn't we curb the f-bombs? You'd think Notre Dame football games are something I could sit down and watch with my kids.”
Greg Pollowitz, in the National Review said “I think the trustees of the university should fire him this morning…Not because of the loss, but because of the way he treated his players. This is really uncalled for.”
What seems more worrying to me is his high color rather than his cursing! Kelly looks positively purple in these shots.
Do you believe that Kelly should be put out over a couple of curses? Let us know below and take part in our poll.

Okay, something that you all should know about Brian Kelly is that his sideline antics, over-the-top cursing, and general rants are nothing new. All the way back when he was coaching little Grand Valley State he drew the attention of game attendees by his vulgar language on the sidelines. I know some men who ran the chain crew at an opposing school. When GVS played there, Kelly's language was so obscene that a member of that chain crew actually took it upon himself to contact the President/Chancellor at GVS and file a complaint about the coach's language. To be perfectly honest, when ND hired this guy I sort of chuckled at this seemingly mismatched partnership. The ultimate in Catholic Universities and all of the religious atmosphere, and this guy who makes a sailor blush. Bottom line, this isn't this 1st time he has acted this way and it won't be the last. As we have seen with guys that have a certain public appearance, they may not be all that squeeky clean after all (see Jim Tressel).

He was over the top. No doubt about it. There are better ways to reprimand players. For the sake of his health, Brian Kelly needs to tone down.

Do I care one way or the other? Nope. Do I care that the writer can't spell 'bawled' correctly? Yep.

We here in Tampa, home of USF, had a coach similar to this: his name was John gruden.. His act became a sideshow in itself. Let me just say it got old quick, and became an embarrassment.
This week we also lost a great man, Lee Roy Selmon, an NFL Hall of Famer and the man most responsible for creating USF football. He would be a better role model.

Some of your readers should just content themselves with watching re-runs of Lawerence Welk.Kelly is a great coach, leave him alone.

Should the ND coach be held to a higher standard? In reality because of the improvements in TV photography, Kelly is caught doing what prior ND coaches did without observation. The closest we got to Lou Holtz was to see his hat throwing. We couldn't read his lips as we can now do with any coach. Such is the price of fame Brian. You may have to lighten up.

Jeez. That's a stroke waiting to happen. He keeps that up, he'll be screaming (and dribbling) unintelligibly out of one side of his mouth from a nursing home.
Nothing will happen to him as a coach, though. Bol Pelini is still at Nebraska and that's a guy who should have had his lights punched out, THEN fired, then punched out again. Lighten up, Coaches. It's a game. It's not a garden party OR Falluja.

That's right FOOTBALL...a GAME. Kelly was in "a suicide by players" mode. The AD should have spoke to him at half time or during one of the delays and told him to put a cork in it! Or, insist that he be put on family medical leave immediately. The man was out of control. Censure and anger management may help his self-destruct behavior.

Lets see now, the game is played to crush, stomp, run over and beat up opposing teams. But he should be fired for some well deserved choice words? Come on! This isn't a garden party in the church. Get real people........
