A full Irish breakfast consists of Irish bacon (rashers), sausage, fried eggs, fried tomato, mushrooms,  home fried potatoes and black and white pudding. Rashers are thickly sliced pieces of bacon which contain a layer of fat around the meat. It is similar to Canadian bacon.

Traditionally Irish bacon is taken from the back meat of a pig as opposed to the pork belly used in American bacon. Irish sausages tend to be thicker also than the average. Black and white pudding is made from blood and grain. No full Irish breakfast is complete without a pot of tea and brown bread.

Sausage: how to prepare
Place 1 teaspoon of oil in a covered frying pan on low heat. Allow pan to sit for five minutes to heat up. Place sausage in pan and cover with lid. Cook for five minutes and turn constantly.

Rashers: how to prepare

Place 1 teaspoon canola or olive oil in a saute pan and cook the bacon on medium heat for five or 10 minutes, dependant on show crispy you like your bacon.

Pudding: how to prepare
Cook like you would a sausage patty in a saute pan on medium heat until it is crisp.

Tomato: how to prepare
Cut a washed tomato in half and place it on the frying pan on a low heat for about 5 minutes, turning every few minutes.  It will taste extra juicy if you cook it in the same fat you cooked the bacon in.

Fried egg: how to prepare
Cook eggs in a clean stainless steel pan with a knob of Irish butter.

Happy St. Patrick's Day Belfastgirl1, I never heard of potato farls, before. Love the soda and brown breads, too.
ellenfromcork, I was thinking (heart attack on a plate) when I looked at the picture. Happy ST. Patrick's Day!
Where's the Wheatabix?
yummy!
The other name for a full Irish breakfast--- death on a plate.
I love potato farls, soda bread and good old Wheaten bread.
The one thing I missed for breakfast, in Ireland was Home fries. I was really surprised that there were never potatoes on the breakfast menu.
Nothing like a good fry breakfast to get one going. Always love to a get good Irish full breakfast when I am staying at a B&B in Ireland. I love traditional brown bread. I liked the potato fadge for breakfast when I was in the North last year.
