The Blarney Castle Inn in Cabo San Lucas

Always wanted to stay in an Irish castle? But wanted to avoid the cold drafts?

Then head straight to Mexico where you can check in to the Castillo Blarney Inn in Cabo San Lucas, a beautiful inn that’s modeled on Ireland’s famed Blarney Castle.

Perched on a hill high above downtown Cabo San Lucas, the Blarney Castle Inn was a gift from Boston resident Joseph Evans to his adopted city of Cabo San Lucas.

Evans, a Monaghan native, began vacationing in “Cabo” in the early 1980s. In 1988, he bought land on the mountainous site where he loved to hike and soon began building his dream home.

What started out as a single penthouse for Evans and his family soon grew to become an eight-suite hotel. It looks out over the city of Cabo, the marina and the Sea of Cortez.

“I love to watch people’s eyes when they get to the top step of our hotel or restaurant,” Blarney Castle Inn Manager Brian Santoyo said. “Their eyes lock in on the view and open real wide. The next thing I usually hear is the word ‘wow.’”

The Irish theme is best seen in the original Castle Penthouse and Hidden House suites which include a Gaelic inscription written into the fireplace surround.

“We’ve had many a couple hold their wedding reception and honeymoon here. With our elevated view, this is also a fantastic place to take in the fireworks on New Year’s Eve. On St. Patrick’s Day, we have world champion Irish dancers performing here,” Santoyo said.
