The Gathering of the Clans in South Kerry, which is taking place Easter week, is looking to bring two people home from North America courtesy of Cable O’Leary’s in Ballinskelligs to join in their week long celebration as their guests of honor.
 
The ‘Fly them home’ competition is being run on the Gathering of the Clans Facebook page and all you have to do to be in with a chance of winning this fantastic prize is to describe why you and your partner or a couple you know deserve to to be flown home to South Kerry.
 
It’s all part of the ‘Gathering of the Clans’ taking place this year from the 23rd to the 1st of April in conjunction with the gathering 2013. ‘The aim is to create a week-long event in South Kerry with the primary goal of bringing the South Kerry Diaspora home and also to appeal to the national and international visitor in a celebration of our culture, sports, and heritage.’ said Joe McGill, one of the founders of this unique event.

‘We are delighted Cable O’Learys have come on board with this competition because it will give the chance for people that may not get to come home too often that opportunity.’ The prize includes flights from North America for 2 people and accommodation from March 22 to April 2nd 2013 courtesy of Cable O’Learys.

The festival itself aims to celebrate the connections the Irish have all over the world and also the proud heritage South Kerry people have and to highlight the natural and cultural heritage of the South Kerry region. ‘This event is about creating a sense of place and reuniting families, and in the community of Iveragh, and its environs the festival aims to involve the local community and make families part of the event said Marita O’Sullivan Hitmiangsong one of the organizers of this event. ‘We will always celebrate South Kerry success at home and abroad across a wide range of fields, from business to academia, to sport, literature, culture, community, and so on’, she added. 

There will be a host of events taking place in every town and village in the Iveragh area and some of the highlights include, The Battle of the Clans which includes the various sports associated with South Kerry with individuals playing on teams underneath the one family name, ‘A Musical Journey Through the History of Ireland' by Ceoltóirí Sliabh Luachra, The Gathering of the Clans celebration and the ‘Best of South West’ will involve a gathering of the clans of South Kerry in nights of music song and dance to showcase the best of what South Kerry has to offer. The History of South Kerry will be showcased in Talks and Exhibitions. Particular attention will be paid to works that highlight the South Kerry region.
