Leitrim Tourism are set to launch a recruitment drive to increase the number of Leitrim Ambassadors in the U.S.

The Leitrim public, Leitrim exiles, and anyone with Leitrim roots are encouraged to attend, meet and mingle with the Who’s Who of Leitrim in New York and the US.

In order to continue the success of the Gathering initiative, Leitrim Tourism is using this as a unique opportunity to target Leitrim people living in New York and the US to become ambassadors of their native county. Leitrim folk are being encouraged to tell their friends, family, neighbours and work colleagues about the County of Leitrim and to encourage them to attend the event at Rosie O’Grady’s Pub, Manhattan.

Leitrim Tourism Officer Sinead Mc Dermott will be the MC at the event and will be calling on the likes of Cathaoirleach, Leitrim County Council Enda Stenson and Chairperson Leitrim Tourism Joe Dolan to give a few words to mark the initiative.

There will be live traditional music from Leitrim Musicians on arrival and refreshments including wine and finger food will be available on arrival. Famous Leitrim son Seamus O’Rourke will also be present on the day and will mark his presence with a performance.

This year marks the 400th anniversary since the county Leitrim town of Carrick on Shannon was granted a charter by King James the first. To celebrate this historic occasion a year-long festival programme of events will be held throughout 2013 incorporating the arts, music and sport.
