Something we Walshes could do: Ours is a common family name in Ireland, USA, Australia & elsewhere. What if we would make common cause in The Walsh Foundation? The Rockerfeller Foundation has a small donor base with big money. Same for Ford. But, if many Walshes would commit to small monthly contributions, say US$ 10.oo or so, we would be able to do somthing important in our family name. Ideas--for hungry poor, or even for scholarships for deserving needy Walsh students. I first raised this flag some 13 years ago and set up the Walsh Foundation in the State of PA. But very few Walshes saluted at that time. Would this now be the right time? I'm personally willing to work for this. What say you? My Email is: sean_walsh7@yahoo.com. Blessings!

The Walshes of Tyrawley, County Mayo are held to be descended from Walynus, a Welshman who came to Ireland with Maurice Fitzgerald in 1169. This man's brother, Barrett, was the progenitor of the Barretts of Tirawley as per info by The Historical Research Center of names.com

Hi, I'm a Walsh too. In Latin America, there are Walshes in Argentina, including the greatly loved author and singer, Maria Elena Walsh. She wrote novels, poems and even children's cartoon books that are greatly loved. I once visited her. Also, there was the Argentine Rodolfo Walsh, who wrote great political novels. He was unfortunately a communist. His daughter Patricia was a presidential candidate in 2000. I also met her. His other daughter was killed by the Colonels in the "dirty war." There was a great "black Irish" athlete from Jamaica, Courtney Walsh, who excelled in international cricket. We're all over the place, like the sons of Abraham.

This is so interesting. I would like to learn more about my Irish roots. Unfortunately, my father, Thomas Walsh, passed away in 1994 and I only know bits and pieces about his family history.
