A varient of the Doyle surname is McDougall, and Alexander McDougall was the leader of the Sons of Liberty in NYC before the Revolutionary War. A goroup of the Sons clashed with the British in lower Manhattan on 19 Jan. of 1770, six weeks Before the Boston Massacre. The Red Coats charged these protesters with fixed bayonets and wounded several. Some of McDougall's injured patriots received treatment at the John Stree Metholist church, which had been erected in 1766 by Irish Palatines from County Limerick.
Another well known bearer of this name was John Doyle, the only hurler to equal Christy Ring in winning All-Ireland hurling medals. John DOYLE of Tipperay who died land year had won 8 All-Ireland senior hurling medals and heaps of other G.A.A. awards.
