Redheads in Ireland will be joining forces this coming March to celebrate their often stigmatized hair color, in a bid to raise money for Unicef.

The original idea came from a Facebook campaign entitled “Ireland Should Have A Day To Celebrate Ginger People.”

“The ginger people of Ireland need you! Let's have a day in 2011 where we all celebrate the red heads we know!!!! Of course on the day, non red heads can dress up like bosco, podge, rodge, Ronald McDonald and other famous red heads!” the page announced.

The page became a huge hit with Facebook users and soon attracted interest from across the globe.

Now in conjunction with Unicef, Ireland’s ginger population will be gathering to celebrate their shared identity.

The National Ginger day will take place on March 12 and will showcase a host of events according to organizers.
